"This one will be the last Pope": Kosovan jihadists arrested
A group of Kosovars charged with condoning terrorism and incitement to racial hatred were arrested early this morning in some Italian cities and in Kosovo.
The police operation dubbed "Van Damme" was carried out by the Counterterrorism Police Directorate and the Digos counterterrorism unit of Brescia Police Headquarters in Italy in cooperation with the Kosovan police.
The terrorist group was promoting jihadist ideology through the social networks. During the investigations police uncovered several clues about dangerous religious extremism including pictures depicting the suspects with weapons or acting as fighters of the Islamic State.
The chats analyzed by the investigators contained threats against the Holy Father and sentences such as "this will be the last Pope". Other web material is still under investigation.
Police Chief Alessandro Pansa congratulated the Brescia Police Chief Constable on the excellent results, also expressing the appreciation of Interior Minister Angelino Alfano to all police officers in charge of the operation.
