The new EU internal security strategy was discussed in a two-day high level meeting, organized by the European Commission and the Italian Presidency of the EU Council in Brussels. It was the first formal meeting of the Standing Committee on Operational Cooperation on Internal Security - COSI.

The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Police Chief Matteo Piantesosi, focused on identifying current, emerging and future threats. The document submitted by the Italian delegation received strong support from the Member States. It was centred on strengthening fundamental rights by integrating them into the EU internal security policy, while coordinating EU home affairs, external action and the relations with third countries.
