The 92nd meeting of Europol Management Board - the governing board of the European Police Office, which will be chaired by Italy until December 2014 - is being hosted at the Italian Police Academy in Rome.

The Management Board meeting is attended by Europol representatives and high-ranking members of the delegations from the 28 Member State and the European Commission. The delegates have been welcomed by the Chief of Police Alessandro Pansa.

The European Police Office governing body meets to discuss Europol current activities and future developments using assessment parameters to measure the achievement of the objectives, taking into account the operational needs of the Member States, particularly as regards the fight against serious crime, organized crime and terrorism, in compliance with the priorities set by the EU Council.

During the meeting the members of the Management Board will discuss the best possible solutions to achieve common objectives to combat crime priorities falling within Europol's mandate.

"We are living through an unprecedented economic crisis, the threats posed by terrorism and organized crime are immediate, that's why cooperation among Member States can only be further strengthened," said Police Chief Alessandro Pansa in his speech. He also identified "a series of priorities for Italy, ranging from the protection of legal economy against organized crime infiltrations, to the fight against corruption and trafficking in human beings, up to illegal immigration, terrorism, economic crime and cybercrime." "These topics", concluded Prefect Pansa, "were the subject of reports and recommendations at the recent EU Police Chiefs Convention, held in The Hague on September 24 and 25. "
