Railway police: 4th edition of the Rail Action Day

Within the framework of European police cooperation, the Italian Railway Police - Polfer participated in the 4^th edition of the Rail Action Day 24BLUE, held on 4^th and 5^th October 2012. This initative was organized by Railpol, the international network of the organizations responsible for policing the railways in the EU member states. The aim is to start common actions against various forms of railway crimes such as offences against the person, thefts, pickpocketing, copper thefts, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration.

More than 2000 railway police officers were involved in the Rail Action Day 24BLUE, carrying out their activity in 402 railway stations and on board 545 trains. During the operation 5000 people were checked, 49 were reported, and 9 people were arrested.

This time the police action focused on copper theft reduction, resulting in 194 iron depots checked and about 2 tons of stolen copper seized.
