Ferrara: Saint Michael the Archangel 2011

CONDIVIDI

Immagine San Michele ArcangeloOn September 29 the Italian National Police commemorate their patron saint, St. Michael the Archangel.

The anniversary is celebrated in a different city every year and after the beautiful locations of Lecce, Trieste and Taormina (just to name a few) this year the event will take place in Ferrara.

The Este castle and the Municipal Theater will host initiatives aimed at raising awareness of police work. The celebrations will include some entertainment too and a live performance of the Police Band. The Holy Mass will be celebrated in the basilica of Saint George.

The "St. Michael the Archangel Award" is assigned to police officers who engage in voluntary, charity and solidarity work, outside duty hours. The prize-giving ceremony will take place on September 29 evening. In 2010 the Award went to a group of police officers with a passion for poetry. Their verses, gathered in the book "Anima indivisa" ("Undivided Soul"), have raised funds for UNICEF.
This year the prize will be awarded to the "Doppiavela sailing team", a group of police officers who have combined their passion for sailing with a solidarity project, and the Rome Mounted Police for their support to horse therapy.
