Conferenza sul Piano d'azione nei confronti dell''ndrangheta

New strategies against organised crime were presented at a press conference held this afternoon in Rome at the Ministry of the Interior.
Interior Minister Angelino Alfano, together with Police Chief Alessandro Pansa, unveiled the National and Transnational Action Plan against the 'Ndrangheta or Calabrian mafia.

Investigators will have new systems available to enhance the fight against this criminal society, which is regarded to date as the most dangerous organized crime group.
The directive signed by the Interior Minister will enable prefects to implement the Action Plan designed to curb the Calabria-based mafia.

The Action Plan aims at improving synergies between the law enforcement activities in Calabria and those carried out in the rest of Italy. In particular, it focuses on territorial policing, investigations targeting assets derived from criminal activity, and on capturing fugitives. It also lays out specific monitoring of the Italian regions economically infiltrated by the 'Ndrangheta, such as Lazio, Emilia Romagna, Piedmont, Liguria and Lombardy.

The Minister's directive will also affect the entire network of Italian security experts abroad.
Investigators will have new technologies available, including full-blown statistics centres, where to consult maps, interactive maps and multi-agency databases.

Technologies

- Sigr - a crime mapping system, developed on Google maps, to examine all types of crimes committed throughout the country.

- Geo.c.ope - a mapping system of the checks conducted by the police displaying the checks carried out and the data of the vehicles and occupants checked.

- Ma.Cr.O - an archive of organized crime maps, providing an instant insight into every single criminal group, including the names of the group members, the roles they play within the group, the area controlled, and any links with other criminal societies.

- Geo.M.A.Cr.O - an organized crime mapping system, developed on Google maps, providing the composition of the crime groups, their area of origin, and their possible ramifications on the national territory.
