Marco Vistalli took up track and field in Bergamo, his hometown, in 2004. In 2006 he participated in the Italian Junior Championships in Rieti, winning the gold in the 4x400 relay and finishing 5th in the individual event. In 2007 he came 3rd at the Italian Promising Athletes Championships and that same year he was a member of the Italian national team which participated at the European U23 Championships in Debrecen (Hungary) for the 4x400 relay.

In 2008 he won the gold medal at the National University Championships in Pisa, a bronze medal at the Italian U23 Championships, and finished 5th at Italian National Championships in Cagliari.. In 2009 he was a leading figure on the Italian track and field scene: he won the silver medal at the Italian U23 Championships in Rieti and the bronze medal at the Italian National Championships held in Milan; he finished 5th at the Beograd World University Games, and 6th at the European U23 Championships in Kuanas, where he put a fine silver medal around his neck running the 4x400 relay, setting the new Italian record in the category.
